BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. In the UK there are 150 field-based staff working out of Oxford, Plymouth and Swindon who regularly drive for business reasons, along with about 25 so-called ‘grey fleet’ cars, where employees occasionally use their own vehicles for work purposes. The fleet is a mixture of cars and estate cars.
The driver risk management programme with AA DriveTech was carried out for staff welfare reasons. The company therefore extended this training to all employees, and not just those who drive while on company business.

Caring for our people is a fundamental principle at BD, and we hoped that training of this kind would be a reflection of that. It was crucial for us that this training programme did not appear to be dictatorial in any way

Tracey Clarke, HR Director

“We wanted our associates to understand and appreciate the real benefits of the training, without giving the impression that we were in any way being critical of their driving abilities. Both the
AA DriveTech workshop moderators and in-vehicle practical trainers understood our objectives well and left a really positive impression on the recipients of the courses. AA DriveTech’s administrative back up was faultless too." says Tracey Clarke, HR Director, BD North West Europe.
