CLM Fleet Management partners with DriveTech to deliver 'CLM drive assured' - a comprehensive strategy for reducing road risk3 April 2006A major new initiative designed to enable organisations to improve their occupational road risk management has been launched by CLM Fleet Management Plc in conjunction with specialist risk management, driver assessment and training provider DriveTech (UK). CLM Fleet Management Plc, leaders in the concept of Total Vehicle Management - an integrated approach that combines all facets related to the management of a vehicle fleet, has designed a comprehensive, bespoke programme called ‘CLM Drive Assured’ to provide additional value-added services to their customers and prospects. ‘CLM Drive Assured’ has been developed as a result of customer demands to understand and act on the ever-increasing health and safety targeted legislation, coupled with the tougher enforcement of existing laws, that are being aimed at companies. Working closely with DriveTech (UK), the country’s leading provider of at-work driving risk management, driver assessment and driver training solutions, CLM Fleet Management will help businesses comply with all existing and forthcoming legislation and put in place policies, procedures and audit trails to minimise risk for employees who drive. Crucially, the initiative focuses not only on company car drivers but also employees who may have taken a ‘cash for car’ option and staff who drive their own cars on business. ‘CLM Drive Assured’ comprises five key integrated services: DriveTech (UK) will undertake a comprehensive risk assessment of a company’s fleet and the risks to which management and staff are exposed. The assessment report will provide a ‘roadmap’ to minimise corporate exposure to occupational road risk as well as identify areas of improvement where financial savings can be made. DriveTech (UK) will deliver line management training to ensure that customer line management understand their ‘duty of care’ responsibilities. The purpose is to ensure that the company develops a sustainable ‘safety culture’ that will ensure risks are identified and managed in the short, medium and long term. A comprehensive driver licence checking service where driving licences are verified by the DVLA to ensure the validity of the driving licences of employees who are allocated a company vehicle or who drive a cash alternative or privately owned vehicle on business. The service, in conjunction with the DVLA, can also extend to ‘nominated partners’ if required. DriveTech (UK) will provide a market-leading online driving risk assessment of all staff that drive on business. Each employee will then be given a risk exposure rating and, based on that rating, a suite of safe driving solutions will be offered dependent on customer requirements and needs. A range of driver training solutions delivered by DriveTech (UK) including on-road training, workshops, e-learning and other supportive materials. Tony Hulatt, CLM Fleet Management’s managing director, said: ‘Our customers demand we meet all their needs as a fleet management outsourcer and we believe that by working in partnership with DriveTech (UK), we are re-enforcing our commitment to do so.’ He added: ‘CLM recognised that the need for a comprehensive duty of care offering to our customers was essential given the growing emphasis placed on this area by government, in addition to the impact of rising costs of road incidents involving fleet drivers. We wanted to work with a partner who could display expertise and flexibility in providing the range of resources required to fulfil the needs of our customers, whilst helping us achieve our objectives to reduce road risk and fleet costs. DriveTech (UK) perfectly matched our requirements of a business partner, having a philosophy very similar to our own of delivering customer service excellence through high quality products and people.’ Jim Kirkwood, managing director of DriveTech (UK), said: ‘CLM Fleet Management’s ‘CLM Drive Assured’ programme is one of the most comprehensive fleet risk management programmes in the market today. ‘By adopting a strategic approach to managing occupational road risk, CLM Fleet Management has put in place a programme that will enable businesses to demonstrate they are operating a safety-focused approach to reducing road risk. By embracing the programme, businesses will not only significantly reduce any threat of prosecution, they will be adopting a ‘best practice’ approach which will deliver moral, financial, reputational and legal duty of care benefits.’ Editor’s notesDriveTech is the UK’s leading provider of ‘driving at work’ risk management, driver assessment and driver training solutions. DriveTech’s goal is to reduce both an organisation’s vehicle business costs and the personal risk for ‘at work’ drivers, by significantly improving driver ABC - attitude, behaviour and competence - therefore supporting driver safety and corporate ‘duty of care’ requirements. DriveTech (UK) has won the Institute of Transport Management’s ‘Fleet Award for Driver Training’ in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and its ‘European Driver Safety Specialist’ award in 2005.
