Driver safety crusader wins Director of the Year award

25 November 2008

Passionate road safety advocate Chris Howell has become the Institute of Directors ‘South East Director of the Year’ in the category for organisations of between £5 and 24 million turnover.

Howell, Chairman of the leading UK driver education provider DriveTech (UK) plc, which is based at Crowthorne near Bracknell, was delighted with the outcome but typically self-effacing: “Although this is essentially a personal award I must immediately pay tribute to my fellow directors and senior management team, who have been tasked with delivering my vision and proved that a business with high ideals, based on making the roads a safer place for all, can also be highly successful commercially.

“As recent events in the financial world have proved only too graphically, strong management is crucial in meeting one’s goals and at DriveTech we continue to exceed both our, and our customers’, expectations.”

The IOD South East Director of the Year Awards, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, took place during the evening of Tuesday November 25 in the prestigious Nash Room at the Institute of Directors in London. There were some 260 submissions for the six category awards on offer.

Chris Howell’s company is involved in driver improvement and education across the board. It provides workshops for offenders wishing to receive education in preference to taking a fine and points on their driving licence, a wide range of courses suitable for those who drive for business purposes and a truly innovative learner driver product which aims to reverse the trend in young driver road casualties.
