Implications for the future of roads policing.

Drivetech, in conjunction with event media partner Policing Insight, is delighted to host a webinar to discuss the implications of its recent whitepaper: “Intelligent Speed Assistance – a logical move for road safety, but driver tech education is still a critical need”.

The webinar itself is titled: “Are we ready for the biggest ever overhaul of mandatory vehicle safety requirements?”

Taking place on the 18th June 2020, 11.00-12.00 BST, it will summarise the planned introduction across the EU of a number of new technical systems on vehicles including ‘speed limiters’ and will consider the implications for the future of roads policing.

The report’s author, Ian Bint – the former head of roads policing in South Yorkshire, will summarise and highlight the whitepaper key findings, and he will be joined by Dr Helen Wells, Director of the Roads Policing Academic Network, and John Apter, Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales. We’re delighted that UKROEd CEO, Ruth Purdie, will also join the webinar and contribute to the Q&A session.

Key issues which will be covered:

  • Will drivers know how to safely use this new equipment?
  • Could these systems induce a false sense of security in drivers?
  • Could the systems be prone to an unacceptable level of error in use?
  • What are the broader implications of more complex vehicles on ever more crowded roads on a depleted roads policing function?
