Electric Vehicle Driver Training for Fleets

With increasing numbers of electric vehicles being introduced as part of modern driving fleets, it is crucial for drivers to be educated on the unique operation, maintenance and driving strategies required to maximise safety and efficiency. Our resources and course portfolio will help engage and educate your drivers. Take them on your EV transition journey to a greener, safer and more sustainable fleet.

Why is EV driver training so important?

Providing EV training for drivers, even if it is simply a thorough handover, outlining how to charge the vehicle and how to drive it is an essential part of a fleet’s electrification strategy.

There are a number of crucial differences which mean that a driver who jumps straight into an EV from an internal combustion engine vehicle will not be getting the best out of it.

Without proper driver education around using EVs, you could potentially be opening up your company to unnecessary on-road risk.

FAQs

What are some of the key differences between an electric vehicle and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle?

There are many differences that drivers will have to accommodate when making the switch. For example, EVs instantly accelerate as they don’t have manual gears and this instant power can cause safety risks for untrained drivers. Drivers of EVs will also have to accommodate that their total range on a single charge may be shorter than they are expecting.

What are the top tips for efficient EV driving?

  1. Avoid unnecessary acceleration and braking by reading the road ahead.
  2. Keep a check on your speed – the higher the speed the more energy consumed.
  3. Switch to eco mode – many vehicles will have a range of eco features to ensure smarter and more efficient driving so make the most of them!

How do you train drivers to drive their electric vehicles more effectively?

We have a variety of training methods to help your fleet navigate a transition to electric vehicles. From online workshops, to e-learnings, and on-road training, we’ll likely consult with you to assess which will be the most effective form of training for your drivers.

Are EVs more dangerous than ICE vehicles?

There is no evidence that EVs are themselves any more prone to being involved in a road accident than petrol or diesel vehicles. However, significant differences exist between EVs and ICE vehicles which could cause safety issues without proper EV training and education.
