Lorry drivers, truck drivers, LGV drivers, HGV drivers – however you refer to them – these drivers play a vital role in the safe transportation of goods and services. These vehicles move everything from food to fuel, moving loads from depots, warehouses, distribution centres to shops, factories and businesses.
Driving a lorry presents unique challenges to both the drivers of HGVs and other road users. They are larger and offer less manoeuvrability, they also have bigger blind spots. They can also carry dangerous or hazardous loads so drivers of these vehicles are presented with challenges above and beyond those that drivers of smaller vehicles can expect. About 30% of all miles driven on UK’s roads are by at-work vehicles. And that is why the transport sector in particular is one of the most heavily regulated industries. With ever-increasing demands on driver’s time, there’s also an important part that mental health and wellbeing has to play in how drivers of HGVs behave whilst driving these vehicles.
Drivetech offers a range of solutions for drivers of lorries and HGVs, from e-learning to on-road courses or virtual workshops. We offer driver CPC training that can be delivered in 3.5 or 7 hour courses usually to a maximum of 16 drivers. We even offer short e-learnings to be viewed daily which are as short as 90 seconds long, but deliver powerful ‘nudges’ to help drivers with compliance, wellbeing and driver behaviour.
To professionally drive a heavy goods vehicle (HGV), you will need to have a full car licence and generally you will have to be over 18. You will also need to obtain a professional driving qualification called the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
Yes, we offer Driver CPC courses for drivers of lorries, buses and coaches. All courses in this section are JAUPT-approved and are available online or in a classroom. The courses are either 3.5 or 7 hours in length and can be mixed and matched to contribute towards your drivers’ 35 hours of periodic training.
Each driver of lorries or HGVs will have to undertake 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a lorry, bus or coach.
