About the course

This aim of this course is to help reduce damage to vehicles which are parked and left unattended.

At least 20% of insurance claims come from car park accidents. The larger the vehicle, the greater the risk, Light Goods Vehicles are particularly vulnerable due to the lack of vision to the sides and rear. In all instances damage is caused by driver error.

This course is designed to be held in a client’s car park. In addition to covering both bay and parallel parking, it will also boost a driver’s confidence by enhancing their ability to safely park their vehicle in common situations, ensuring effective observation, good vehicle control and accuracy, and making effective use of sensors and/or camera systems if fitted.

On this course, participants will:

  • Make informed decisions on where to park based upon need, personal and vehicle safety
  • Analyse human factors that may be a distraction from concentrating on the parking task; e.g. running late, personal or work pressures, feeling unwell, fatigued, angry or excited
  • Appreciate the importance of concentration
  • Carry out a dynamic risk assessment (DRA)
  • Position the vehicle correctly for the manoeuvre and use vehicle technology effectively, including cameras and/or sensors
  • Correct setting of mirrors and use of mirror technology, in particular to tackle blind spots near to the vehicle
