There is a growing number of Vans and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) on the road. If your business has drivers of these vehicle types, we can help.
Driver training can help improve driver safety and efficiency, and reduce bent costs for your business. An additional important requirement for drivers to understand when driving a Van or LCV, is how to secure the load properly. There are unique challenges for all drivers of vans or LCVs and can help your business to mitigate risk whilst also ensuring that you’re meeting the duty of care and wellbeing obligations you have to your drivers.
Vans and LCVs are not designed to be driven the same as a passenger car, but many drivers forget this. They drive to work in a car, park it and take the wheel of a Van or LCV. Then they drive off without adjusting their driving behaviour. That is when accidents happen. About 30% of all miles driven on UK’s roads are by at-work vehicles. And that is why the transport sector in particular is one of the most heavily regulated industries. With ever-increasing demands on driver’s time, there’s also an important part that mental health and wellbeing has to play in how drivers of LCVs behave behind the wheel.

Driving a van presents unique risks to the driver of the vehicle. For example, vans are much taller than cars to users must consider height restrictions. Turning corners and reversing can be more difficult due to the width of the car and visibility and driving with heavy loads can affect the vehicle’s performance. Driver training is crucial to ensure that drivers are equipped with the expertise to drive their LCV safely.
